Indian Men's Hockey Team won Bronze in Paris Olympics 2024 But, there are other things every Indian must know
Indian Men's Hockey Team under the captainship of Harmanpreet Singh won the Bronze medal in the Paris Olympic 2024. India had also won bronze in Tokyo olympics 2020. Before moving forward let's have a look on the medal details of Indian Men's Hockey Team in Olympics till date.
India had to wait for 40 long years to win an olympic medal in Hockey after Moscow olympics 1980 when India had won Gold. This is really a proud moment for India as well as for the state of ODISHA. The Hockey Team's accomplishment is only possible because of the intervention of Odisha under the leadership of Shri NAVEEN PATTNAIK (Former Chief Minister) which began in the year 2018 when Odisha stepped in to become the official sponsor for Indian Hockey Teams. It was very crucial as Indian Hockey was going through a very hard time and there was financial crunch.
Under the leadership of Shri Naveen Pattanaik, Odisha committed an investment of Rs. 120 Crores which further extended till 2033 and now the sponsorship has been extended till 2036 by the current Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi. This showcases the commitment of ODISHA for bringing back the golden era of Indian Hockey. Odisha hosted Men's Hockey World Cup in the year 2019 and 2023 in addition Odisha has organized several international tournaments. This made Odisha to emerge as the Sports capital of India.
In between all of this we all need to think upon that if commitment of a state like Odisha can bring 2 bronze medals consecutively (2020 and 2024) after a gap of 40 years think what our athlets and sports person can accomplish if Central Govt. shows similar dedication towards other sports than Cricket. The sports budget of India for 2024 is 3442.32 crore which is 0.07% of total union budget. And, if you further look into the allocation of funds to different states we can see unequal distribution. Now the question is why there is discrimination in fund distribution by Govt. of India. Winning Olympic medal may be the most prestigious thing but, for wholesome development of sports it is very important to give special attention in distribution of funds.
